What is it used for?

ThreeX revolutionizes the concept of managing a territory. With ThreeX, geographical data is represented in a realistic three-dimensional space, enabling the user to "fly" within the space.

Functions

TERRA NOVA’s ThreeX Suite is based on three products:

ThreeX RealGIS Viewer
ThreeX RealGIS Designer
ThreeX RealGIS Editor

ThreeX RealGIS Viewer is a freely distributed visual navigation software that allows the three-dimensional flight simulation in ThreeX Models and Projects, with the possibility to navigate through predefined VIEW POINTS and ROUTES.

ThreeX RealGIS Designer is an advanced visual display software that, beyond the functions of ThreeX Viewer, allows personalization of a ThreeX Model’s components. Adding to the ThreeX Viewer’s functionalities, the ThreeX Designer allows the user to define new View Points, define new Routes, and record a film of live and pre-defined navigation in AVI format.

ThreeX RealGIS Editor allows the complete customization of ThreeX Models and Projects, giving the user complete control of the project’s components (buildings, annotations, graphics, and VRML objects). For example, maps from raster formats (DTM, Slopes, Exposition, Shading, etc.), maps from vectorial formats (2D or 3D TIN Shapefile, level curves, altimetric bands, regular points grids, etc), 3D processing (add altitudes to 2D or 3D Shapefiles, calculate the 3D area in a polygonal Shapefile, calculate volume differences). Moreover, it allows for the ex-novo creation of models from elevation data, with a limit relative to the dimension of the TEXTURES that may be "drapped" on the TIN. In fact, ThreeX Editor can manage bitmaps up to 3000X3000 pixels, therefore 3KMx3KM with data to a meter, or 90KMx90KM with data to 30 meters resolution. In this regard, it is possible to manage a series of parameters on the quality and format of the TEXTURES, on the type of resampling, and on the transparency. Models with larger dimensions (up to 2000 square KM with images at 1 meter resolution in a single model, and beyond 2000 square KM via the subdivision of the area in the subzone with data at different resolution levels) may be generated directly by TERRANOVA.

  • ThreeX Viewer
  • ThreeX Viewer is a freely distributed visual navigation software that allows the three-dimensional flight simulation in ThreeX Models and Projects, with
the possibility to navigate through predefined VIEW POINTS and ROUTES.

    Principle Functions
    • Load ThreeX projects or models
    • Dynamic and realistic flight simulations via keyboard, mouse, or joystick
    • "Fly" within a model, executing an interpolated flight from the current position to a corresponding, preset View Point
    • Follow preset Routes
    • Query bidimensional vectorial maps relative to the flight area via a mouse click; following the mouse click, it is possible to display the associated alpha-numeric attributes, or to open a document or Web page defined in the attribute
    • Display the current flight position projected on the bidimensional image
    • Simulation of the presence of fog, the sun, the moon, stars
    • Define the scene illumination (for example, to simulate a night scene of the data)
  • ThreeX Designer
  • ThreeX Designer is an advanced visual display software that, beyond the functions of ThreeX Viewer, allows personalization of a ThreeX Model’s components. Adding to the ThreeX Viewer’s functionalities, the ThreeX Designer allows the user to define new View Points, define new Routes, and record a film of live and pre-defined navigation in AVI format.

    Principle Functions
    • Display or hide each individual component present in the model
    • Add and modify View Points, associating a description to a particular view of the model; the view is specified as both coordinates and the angle and altitude of visualization. Such View Points may be stored and organized in folders (e.g., "Cities", "Hospitals", "Monuments", etc.)
    • Define and modify Routes. A Route is not simply a path on the model, but a true storyboard, that is, scenario. In fact, for each point in a Route, it is possible to define a specific action that the model must carry out when the user flys through the point. The actions available are hiding/showing any component, the playing of an audio file, changing the scene illumination, etc.
    • Generate AVI format video generated for a Route or on the fly during flight.
  • ThreeX Plotter
  • ThreeX 3.0 RealGIS Plotter is a software developed and produced entirely by Terra Nova, and originated to allow the creation of high-resolution images made with ThreeX 3.0 RealGIS. With ThreeX Plotter it is possible to create high-resolution images in the most common 2D formats which offer a scenic presentation of a ThreeX project or for the creation of video or posters. In fact, it is possible to effortlessly obtain image files of hundreds of megabytes in non-compressed format, with a resolution of 300 dpi and above.
  • ThreeX Editor
  • ThreeX Editor allows the complete customization of ThreeX Models and Projects, giving the user complete control of the project’s components (buildings,
    annotations, graphics, and VRML objects).

    Principle Functions
    • Define and modify BUILDINGS, starting from a 2D or 3D Shapefile, specifying the extrusion criteria, as well as the bitmap to be positioned on the walls and roof of the building
    • Define and modify ANNOTATIONS
    • Define and modify GRAPHICS objects, for example, to show the effects of flooding along a river bank
    • Define and modify LIGHTS
    • Define and modify VRML objects
    • Define and modify the queriable bidimensional vectorial levels according to a mouse click
    • Generate maps from raster formats (DTM, Slopes, Exposition, Shading, etc.)
    • Generate maps from vectorial formats (2D or 3D TIN Shapefile, level curves, altimetric bands, regular points grids, etc)
    • 3D processing (add altitudes to2D or 3D Shapefiles, calculate the 3D area in a polygonal Shapefile, calculate volume differences)
